Ahh…sunrise. A new dawning has come. Can you feel the warmth and see the light gradually take over the cool darkness?
We welcome the month of July with open arms by focusing on decisions, changes and opportunities.
May this month be a month of turning points! As you reflect back over the past school year and anticipate the one to come, I believe it is good to answer these questions with an expectant attitude.
Do you have decisions to make? After listing your decisions, look at them as a whole, prioritize them and then determine what steps need to be taken to insure success next year.
What changes do you want to see in your life personally and professionally? Many times, our professional lives overrule our personal lives. Do you see any of that in you right now? Anything out of alignment?
What new opportunities are being offered to you? If you are facing new challenges, be sure to prepare well but also give yourself a lot of grace and patience. Change is not easy for any of us.
Decisions – Changes – Opportunities
I expect to make a career decision this month. My college teaching has come to a close and it is now time to turn the page to a new chapter. If it were up to me, this would be the last career decision I make. I expect personal and professional changes to come.
Apart from the career decision, my professional writing will be a focus of attention. Whatever I do with my career, I desire to encourage and inspire value-centered teaching (to everyone who teaches others). It is my hope that Teaching with Aloha will be a tool that does just that.
An evaluative strategy that I have often used is called SWOT. Perhaps this will clarify some decisions, changes and opportunities you will face this month.
S = strengths
W = weaknesses
O = opportunities
T = threats
Often we limit our evaluation to pros (strengths) and cons (weaknesses). But, I have concluded there are two more things to consider.

- What threatens making the decision? Or, what will be threatened by the decision? With this decision, I will have to be careful that…
