From the reflective look, let’s turn and look forward. Here are some questions to answer as the sun rises on the future:

Do you have decisions to make? After listing your decisions, look at them as a whole, prioritize them and then determine what steps need to be taken to insure success.

What changes do you want to see in your life personally and professionally? Many times, our professional lives overrule our personal lives. Do you see any of that in you right now? Anything out of alignment? How will you protect your personal life from your professional life? While you are away from school is a great time to make this decision.

What new opportunities are being offered to you? If you are facing new challenges, be sure to prepare well but also give yourself a lot of grace and patience. Change is not easy for any of us. Can I give you some advice I have had to learn the hard way? Every decision I make must have a related discipline if that decision is going to make a difference. Decision and discipline. A new day is dawning, filled with exciting potential. It’s like another opportunity to get it right!

So, what new opportunities are being offered to you? Divide a piece of paper into 3 columns. List your opportunities in column 1. What decisions do you need to make regarding each of these opportunities? Those should be written in column 2. Lastly, what disciplines need to be enacted to implement the decisions regarding those opportunities? Those should be written in column 3.

I would like to conclude this with an observation that I think fits well with the heart of Ka lā hiki ola. In the Hebrew culture, the day begins and ends with sunset, not sunrise. They start the day resting and then work. Perhaps there is something about this related to Ka lā hiki ola, too. Hmm…
